Dear Yogi-Bears,
Hope that you are all very well and managing to stay snug in these colder nights. Stunning days though, eh! 😊
We had a lovely weekend of classes and retreats – it looks like lots of you are enjoying these weekend options now- Sat 8:30am General (Combo of Hatha and Vinyasa Flow,) and Sunday 4:30pm Restore (Combo of gentle flow, Yin and Restorative Yoga).
Some classes going on hold:
As mentioned a few times before, we do have a few classes during the week which are struggling with numbers. We understand that people’s needs change at this time of the year, and we do have a lot of yogis going on big trips at this time of the year.
So, from next week, Tuesday 6:30pm, Wed 9:15am and Thurs 11am will go on hold for the winter. They will still run them this week though. The yogis in these classes have been made aware of this over the last few weeks so this won’t be a surprise to them. But we are sad to do this, and we are also very sorry for the inconvenience of this. We know that some of you love these classes, but they are just not sustainable with only about 4 or 5 yogis in these classes each week.
We are hoping to pick these classes back up next term OR add a different option at some of these times. In the meantime, if the current classes become full, we will add back in some more options.
For those of you who will be missing these classes, here are some ideas for alternative classes:
Tues Pm- Please come to General on Thurs 6pm or Sat 8:30am instead.
Wed AM – Please come to Mon 9:15, Thurs 9:15 or Sat 8:30am instead.
Thurs 11am – please come to 11am on Mon, Wed or Friday instead or 4:30pm on Sunday.
Names of Classes:
Other news to share with you is that we have changed some of the names of our classes to make it simpler for the timetable:
Mon 9:15- is now Strengthen and Fri 11am is now Restore (same as Sun 4:30pm), instead of Restorative Flow.
Permission Cards:
The last bit of news to share is that we are introducing permission cards for touch and gentle adjustments in our classes. Mostly, we use verbal instruction to help with alignment in classes and if that doesn’t work, we help our yogis with physical adjustments. But we are aware that some people do prefer not to have the teacher physically modify/adjust their pose in class, and that using our voices only is preferential for some. As you may be aware, there is a lot of debate in the yoga world about adjustments, as for some, this can be wonderful but sometimes, they can have the opposite effect. If you would like to read more about adjustments, I have attached an article about them.
So from now on, if we are planning on doing hands on adjustments to help with alignment, head massages OR hands on to nurture and assist a yin/restorative pose, we will add the permission cards to the props for the class and you will just pop your card under the top of your mat 😉 In Yin and Restore classes, we will sometimes be offering hands on to help yogis relax and sometimes we will be offering Reiki, so this will be another time that the Permission Cards will be useful.
Movie at Hoyts:
A couple of our yogis have mentioned a spiritual movie that is playing at Hoyts about near death experiences, which is supposed to be really inspirational. It’s called “After Death” (scary name but not scary content) and it starts this Wednesday so if you are looking for something to watch, why not check it out, and support our local cinema. 😊
OK, I think that’s most of the news for now.
Take Care everyone.
All the best,
Caroline

Upcoming Day Retreat:
Nicki and I have a yummy retreat coming up on Saturday 11th May, the day before Mother’s Day. This might be a lovely pressie to gift someone or to ask to be gifted. But it’s not just a Mother’s Day Retreat – everyone is welcome 😊 To see more info about this, see here and the poster below-RETREATS - Yummy Yoga
Classes:
We have lots of yogis who go away for the winter, and it usually doesn’t affect our numbers too much. However, the Tuesday 6:30pm, Wednesday 9:15 and Thursday 11am are very quiet so if you know anyone wanting to try out a class, please encourage them to come along. If they continue to be quiet, we may put them on hold until the spring again.
Restorative Class:
If you are looking for a floor based gentle class, the new class RESTORE on Sunday from 4:30-5:45pm is a yummy mix of Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Breathing Practices and Meditation. A wonderful end to the weekend and a super start to the week. If you have never been to a class like this, please come along to your first one on me- just email or text me and I’ll book you in complimentary so you can see what this type of class is like.
Hibiscus Coast Edible Garden Trail:
This weekend we have a special opportunity to visit gardens in the area and see how sustainable living is made possible. A bunch of local gardeners are opening their garden to the public, both Saturday and Sunday this weekend between 10-3pm. The garden of one of our own fabulous yogis, Lynsey, is no. 2 on the list!. You can just go to any of these gardens during these hours and have a look for yourself 😊
You can see more about this in the poster below & You can see it also under Sustainable Orewa

Christmas Dates:
Cannot believe that we only have 3 and a half more weeks of yoga before our Christmas break (of 3 weeks):
Our last classes are on Wed 20th December, and we will re-start on Wed 10th January. We may add a couple of pop-up classes over the holidays, and we will let you know about this 😉
Fundraiser:
Just a reminder of our Christmas Fundraiser for Women’s Refuge (which we have already collected lots of money for! Thank you), this will be held on Sunday 17th December – from 10-12pm. This fundraiser will include Qi Gong, Pranayama (Breathing Practice), Meditation and Morning Tea. Your full donation on the day will go directly into our Women’s Refuge Collection. To book or read about this, please see here: https://www.yummyyoga.co.nz/christmas-fundraiser.html
Caster Oil Packs:
One of our lovely Yogis (Eileen) brought something interesting to my attention recently that I want to share with you- the benefits of caster oil packs for sore knees, neck etc. You can read more about this here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.purelyrootednutrition.com/amp/the-magic-of-castor-oil-packs
Eileen ordered hers from here and was extremely happy with her purchase. https://www.honestskincare.co.nz/shop/#tags=146279

Retreats 2024:
We are currently planning for next year. Many of you have requested lots of Day Retreats dotted through the year again, and some half day Retreats. We will definitely do these 😉
We are also looking at going to Mana Retreat Centre in the Coromandel for a weekend again, and we might go to Bali for a week. Mana will possibly be in mid Feb, as it looks like we might get a cancellation booking for 16th-18th Feb, and we think Bali will possibly be in Sep/October.
Please send expressions of interest to let us know if you are keen for either or both of these longer retreats.
We have to let Mana know this week if we are keen to take the Feb cancellation so, please let me know ASAP if you would be keen for that 😊
Breathing Re-Training:
Lastly, our final offering this year is our 2 Day Breathing Course on the 9th and 10th of December (in 2 weeks)…..if you are struggling to catch your breath, finding the heat makes you breather harder, have anxiety, asthma, insomnia, snoring, breathlessness…….you WILL benefit hugely from this course. Limited number of 10, and we have 4 spots left. So please book in quickly if you are keen to make this investment for your health and then improve your breathing over the Christmas break by practising what you’ve learned. We will have a follow up session in January.
There are flyers at the hall, if you would like to take some.😊 For more info, or to book https://www.yummyyoga.co.nz/2-day-breathing-retraining-course.html

Some awesome takeaways ;)
61 Point Meditation:
This is a very simple practice to learn and do on yourself when to want to relax. It can help you get to sleep too. I have included a recording of it here, and the points are charted in the document attached if you would like to learn it and/or print it.

Box Breathing
This is a very simple practice. It can be done to whatever count feels most comfortable – 4/5 or 6, and the concept is that you breathe in for the same count – for example 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4 and hold for 4. Like you were drawing a box with the 4 phases of your breath. When practiced for 3-5 minutes daily, it can help calm the body and bring the body to better health. You can practice it here: https://www.maimonidesem.org/blog/box-breathing-technique-nbspnbsp
You could also download the app Breathe+ and then you can change the seconds, according to what works best for you. X
